PRESS RELEASE – This morning, our deputies responded to a welfare check.
Upon arrival, they were greeted by the homeowner, who allowed them entry into the house.
They were led to a bedroom where a man was lying in bed with a gun. He began shooting at the deputies, injuring one of them.
In response, other deputies returned fire, resulting in the man’s death.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our deputies go to work every day with the mission to protect and serve this community, and the last thing we want is to face situations like the one today.
We are grateful that our deputy, Brice Mattick is expected to make a full recovery and will be able to sleep in his own bed tonight.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on the scene and will conduct the officer involved shooting.
