Congressman Collins Applauds Senate Passage of Defend Trade Secrets Act

April 4, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States Senate passed S. 1890, the Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016, by a vote of 87-0. Congressman Collins, the sponsor of the House version of the bill, issued the following statement upon passage:

“I am encouraged by the Senate passage of the Defend Trade Secrets Act. The overwhelming support for the bill in the Senate is further evidence of the importance of the protections provided by the legislation. I applaud Senators Hatch and Coons for their leadership in moving this bill forward in the Senate. In the House, the bill has broad bipartisan support with 127 cosponsors, and I hope the Senate vote will encourage swift action in the House so that we can empower companies to protect their own trade secrets in federal court and ensure critical intellectual property protections exist. Current law does not provide a full range of tools for law enforcement to protect against theft of trade secrets, and the Department of Justice lacks the resources to prosecute many trade secrets cases. The Defend Trade Secrets Act would create a uniform federal standard for trade secret misappropriation, consistent with remedies available for other intellectual property like patents, copyrights, and trademarks, while preserving states’ ability to act in state law claims. This legislation strengthens American’s defenses against the economic harms created by trade secret theft and creates more efficient remedies to prevent trade secret theft and recover any losses.”

  • Doug Collins is not telling the truth about Omnibus bill. It did fund planned parenthood. Franklin Graham quit the Republican Party because of this. I believe Franklin Graham before I believe Doug Collins.
