WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. – A Whitfield County man was arrested Saturday after authorities say he threatened to shoot emergency responders before barricading himself inside his home.
According to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Nicholas Drive at about 10:49 a.m. Oct. 24 after Steven Michael Anderson contacted Whitfield County dispatchers requesting that law enforcement meet him at his home for advice.
Authorities said Anderson became irate during the call and told dispatchers he was going to shoot emergency responders.
When deputies arrived, Anderson allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to come outside after being given lawful orders by law enforcement.
Deputies established a perimeter around the home and activated the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.
Shortly after SRT members arrived, Anderson exited the residence and began walking around his yard and driveway, according to the sheriff’s office. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
Anderson was transported to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Jail, where he is being held without bond.
He faces a charge of terroristic threats and acts under O.C.G.A. § 16-11-37.
The allegations are accusations, and Anderson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
