JASPER, Ga. — A former Jasper Police Department officer has been arrested on multiple charges following an investigation into an alleged on-duty altercation earlier this year.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday, Aug. 24, that John Massey, 31, of Jasper, was arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery, one count of criminal trespass, one count of false imprisonment and one count of violation of oath of office.

The investigation began after the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office requested an independent GBI investigation on May 20 into allegations involving Massey’s conduct while serving as a Jasper police officer.

According to the GBI, Massey responded to a report of a man disturbing the peace on March 25. Investigators said Massey encountered the man at the location of the call and entered the man’s home, where a physical altercation occurred between the two.

Massey was later booked into the Pickens County Detention Center.

The GBI said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
