Washington, D.C. – Today, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, testified before the House Judiciary Committee on his misconduct during the Congressional investigation of IRS targeting of conservative groups. Congressman Collins cosponsored a House Resolution to impeach Commissioner Koskinen in April. Congressman Collins previously questioned Commissioner Koskinen three times when he appeared before the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Collins again had an opportunity to question Koskinen at today’s hearing. He issued the following statement:
“Today’s hearing told us more of the same. It’s no wonder the American people don’t trust the IRS. Commissioner Koskinen continued to stonewall and parse words rather than providing true answers to taxpayers. In response to one of my questions, the Commissioner admitted the IRS still hasn’t fully replied to a subpoena from 2013. Commissioner Koskinen has misled Congress and the American people, failed to provide documents, and done little to restore accountability to the agency. Its past time Commissioner Koskinen is held responsible for his actions. American taxpayers deserve better.”
