Scam Alert
Featured Stories August 10, 2024 , by Emma DunnPRESS RELEASE – The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office released the following press release after receiving multiple reports of scammers:
Scammers are using spoofed local phone numbers, credible names, and convincing stories—all to steal your money!
Protect yourself by hanging up on anyone who claims to have a warrant for your arrest, threatens to issue a warrant, or asks you to purchase gift cards.
We hate seeing citizens fall for these tricks.
Our warrants unit works hard to locate people and will never call you to ask for money.
**VERIFY EVERYTHING!**
We’ve heard of scams involving fake car accidents, with callers claiming that a grandchild needs money for medical bills, or scammers pretending to be the FBI and asking you to empty the cash register at work.
If you’re being pressured to give money, keep it secret, or avoid verifying the situation—**you are likely being scammed.**
