Dr. Wilson to Update Board on Search for Football Coach

News

CLEVELAND, Ga. — School Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson will provide an update on White County High School’s search for a new head football coach when the White County School Board meets at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Bill Ballard resigned as head coach at the end of the 2016 season, saying his desire to serve as head coach was “just no longer there.” Ballard remained on staff as a history teacher and coach of the track team. He was in his sixth year as head football coach.

Wilson said a search committee of eight to 10 people has been established, including the school’s Principal and Athletic Director. Wilson said the committee has already reviewed several applicants and is not expected to meet again before January. The committee will then come up with a few finalists to present to Wilson to bring before the Board of Education.

“Speaking just for myself, I’d love to have a name or two to present to the Board by February,” he said. “We need to have the new coach in here in plenty of time to begin spring fooball.”

Wilson also will provide a buildings project update and department leaders will provide additional updates on curriculum, nutrition, special services, technology and facilities.

The Board will also disucss its Jan. 2017 retreat, mentor program requets and schedule meeting dates for 2017 before going into executive session
