Mrs. Joyce N. Hill Cornett, age 88 of Ellijay, Georgia passed on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at her home.
Born Friday, September 4, 1925 in Vale, Oregon to the late Henry B. and Gladys C. Hill. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Ellijay and a graduate of Vale High School. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. “Jack” Cornett, who passed away in 1991.

A memorial service is being planned, and will be announced at a later date.

Joyce and Jack raised their children overseas, living in Guam, Yokohama Japan, Bangkok, Thailand, and Buenos Aires, Argentina before settling in Cincinnati, OH. Retiring to Ellijay in 1983, they quickly settled into their new home and community, becoming active in the First United Methoist Church, recycle center, Chamber of Commerce, and the local chapter of the American Heart Association. Together they built the Cornett Ranch into a wonderful home for their growing family, as well as an award winning quarter horse breeding business. After losing Jack, Joyce enjoyed frequent family gatherings and the many wonderful friends she met through her Blue Ridge bridge groups. She often said, “Of all our 31 moves during our life together, this was the only move made just for us, simply because we loved it!”

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Cornett of Duluth, GA; Sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Janie Cornett of Ellijay, GA and Ron Cornett of Atlanta, GA; Grandchildren, Joy Ishi Smith, John Matthew Cornett, Lara Cornett and Alex Cornett; Step grandchildren, Moses Mooney, Kimberly Snowden, Brian Hulsey, Melissa Hulsey West, and Ricky Hulsey; Great grandchildren, Robert, Kyle, Evan, Orson Jack, Adalynn Jo and Emma Joy; Sisters, Della Hill Thompson and Myrna Hill Sharp, both of Oregon.
